202602 Splash

PHOTOGRAPHY: February 2026;

Splashes, waves and shapes produced from dropping objects into a water tank.

Firstly, many thanks to Ken and Linda for organising and hosting this activity plus their friend Martin who provided the equipment set-up and session supervision.

For all of us, this adventure into Splash Photography was a first attempt – and it did prove quite challenging.

The initial approach was to take the shot as the object dropped, automatically synchronised with the flashguns.  This proved quite difficult as we had varying success in capturing the exact moment the object and splashes were in the right place.  One key aim is to create a ‘crown’ effect with the splash.  Maureen’s shot number 07 comes closest to that aim.

An alternative approach was to not rely on the flash but crank up the ISO value and take a burst of shots as the object drops – then discard 99% of the shots keeping the one or two decent ones.

Our best results are in the photos below but it’s true to say that we have some way to go!

Best wishes,  Alan
