The Benfleet u3a is an independent charity registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales, No. 1160541.
We operate to our own Constitution, which sets out the rules and mechanisms by which this u3a is run. This constitution is updated from time to time as circumstances require and must be approved by Members. Whilst independent we do take advice and guidance from the National u3a on this and other matters to ensure we stay within the law regarding our charitable status.
The Benfleet u3a is managed by a Committee comprising 11 members. As required by our Constitution four of these posts are Trustees of our charity - Chair, Vice-Chair, Treasurer and Secretary, Other Committee Members agree to take on roles relevant to the successful running of our u3a.
These posts have a specified duration and require re-election or election, by Benfleet u3a Members, of a new committee member at our Annual General Meeting. Any updates or requirements are briefed to members at our Monthly General Member Meetings, in our quarterly Bulletins and/or by specific email/post as required.
