202609 The Last Romeo

Book Club September 2026
The Last Romeo by Justin Myres

The Last Romeo by Justin Myres

This book was hated by most members and not even completed. It was about gay friendships. Found to be boring and not worth reading.

I did find some things informative and illuminating. For example, I had never heard of The Baader Meinoff syndrome. It depends on a frequency illusion. That is, something occurs that one hasn’t thought of for years, and then the same occurrence happens again and perhaps again. A cognitive bias if you will.

A very confusing story, with many different names and aliases being used. The same old stereotyping as I have read before. In-group fighting, drinking of enormous amounts of alcohol, body image and the need to uncover those that try to keep their homosexuality a secret.

Wonderful write ups and recommendations on this book that we all couldn’t understand why.

We are now reading Snap by Brenda Bauer which is a thriller. Our next meeting is 9th October 2pm.
