DRAWING AND PAINTING: February 2026; Pottery Workshop
On a wet and cold day the Drawing & Painting Group descending on Hadleigh Old Fire Station and Estelle gave another pottery workshop for us.
You must remember most of us are complete beginners but under Estelle’s tuition we all managed to make a finished pot. We had a choice whether to create the pot “over” a support alternatively put the pot “inside” a larger pot for support.
· First we “bashed” down on the clay before rolling out a circle shape
· Using a template we accurately cut out a circle and trimmed off excess clay
· Using woodblocks we stamped our pattern also marking out where we intend to fold over the edges
· We cut the fold edges and carefully placed the circle either over a support or in a support
· After folding into shape we painted “slip” on the joins to ensure they held
The pots will be left to dry and then glazes will be mixed for them before putting into the kiln. Look out for our finished pots in a few weeks.
We all enjoyed ourselves and many thanks to Estelle for her patience, organisation and extra work involved in bringing this altogether.
