WILDLIFE: Thursday 11 December 2025; Visit to Shoebury Garrison
Hello Everyone, I hope you have all survived Christmas and are healthy and ready to face the New Year!
We had a lovely bright visit to Shoebury Garrison which brought some warmth with it if you stood still long enough.
It didn't seem much to see at first but we did witness a cormorant catch an eel which seemed far too big for him to swallow but after a lot of diving and getting a different hold on the eel it finally got swallowed. It was not the most lovely of scenes I must confess but that is what we are about!
Birds seen or heard - House Sparrow, Wood Pigeon, feral Pigeon, Curlew, Godwit, Black Headed Gull, Herring Gull, Little Grebe (Dab Chick) Gt Crested Grebe, Moorhen, Coot, Mallard, Grey Heron, Cormorant, Mute Swan, Cettis Warbler, Starling, Redshank and Carrion Crow.
Plants Seen - Ground Ivy, Fennel, Bristly Ox-Tongue, Common Mallow, Kniphofia (Red Hot Poker).
Other - European Eel being disposed of by said Cormorant, unidentified Bumble Bee.
We then had a lovely lunch in the Serendipity Cafe after which Alan explained how to send our photos to Darren.
Stay warm and healthy.
Best wishes Janet
