Thursday 14 November 2024; Visit to Bluehouse Farm, North Fambridge
Hello one and all.
We did have a blustery walk at Blue House Farm on Thursday but it was dry and sunny although got very overcast later. The car park was nearly full so we had to do a bit of double parking. The ground was good and grassy and a bit rutty in places. Surrounding fields were full of cows and sheep along with many geese, four different species.
The hides were very well camouflaged with green roofs and rustic wood piles at the side. Unfortunately there was only Shelduck to see as everything else was too far a way. We didn't get to walk along the sea wall and had to come back the way we had gone - save that for another time.
Our sightings:
- Birds: Goldfinch, Blackbird, Robin, Cormorant, Carrion Crow, Magpie, Starling, male & female Stonechat, Wigeon, Mallard, Teal, Shelduck, Canada Goose, Greylag Goose, Brent Goose, Barnacle Goose, Lapwing, Mute Swan, Meadow Pipit, Common Buzzard, Marsh Harrier, Red Kite, Pied Wagtail, Long Tailed Tit, Blue Tit.
- Animals: One little Pygmy shrew, deceased
- Plants: Horse Mushroom, Fairy Ring Toadstools, Norfolk Reed, American floating water Pennywort (invasive non-native pond plant).
Sadly I personally didn't see any of the birds of prey!!
Our lunch was at the very updated Ferry Boat pub, which I think was called the Creeksea Ferry Boat years ago.
Best wishes until next month. Janet
